Children’s learning
The Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), sets the standards that all early years providers must meet to ensure that children learn and develop well and are kept healthy and safe. It promotes teaching and learning to ensure children’s “school readiness” and gives children the broad range of knowledge and skills that provide the right foundation for good future progress through school and life.
We use the Statutory Framework for the EYFS to help us to trace each child’s progress and to enable us to provide the right activities to help all of the children to achieve and progress.
Play helps young children develop through doing talking, which research has shown to be the means by which young children think and learn. Children are given opportunities through carefully planned play situations as well as more formal, but fun, key person activities. In some of these activities children decide how they will the activity and resources given, and in others, the activity will be adult led to help support the child achieve the activity.
The key person and your child
We operate a key person system, which means that each member of staff has a group of children for whom they are particularly responsible. At The Village Nursery we believe our role as a key person is to develop a close, strong, trusting relationship with your child, in order to support them in every aspect of their well-being and development. We work alongside you to provide a constant point of contact, to ensure your child receives an education which is suited to their needs.
Your child’s key person will:
- Serve as a source of comfort and stability offering them a safe haven
- Communicate regularly about your child
- Be there to support you
- Complete relevant checks to ensure your child is achieving
Special needs
Mrs Baker is the named Special Educational Needs Co-ordinator with over 20 years experience in working with SEND in education. All of out staff have training and experience of SEND and we pride ourselves on ensuring that each child is supported completely. At The Village Nursery we have an excellent reputation for working closely with all ofour families to recognise and identify any areas of additional need that your child may have. We understand the challenges that both you and your child may come across, and support you both practically as well as emotionally, ensuring that your child receives the best education possible. From start to finish we will be there using our expertise and involving outside agencies where needed so your child has a smooth transition to school.
